YouTube's watch page keeps video details to a minimum. Upload dates appear as "2 days ago", and things like the category, the embed setting or blocked countries aren't shown at all. Here's how to see more.
What YouTube shows you
- Video description box. Click to expand it and you'll see the exact view count and the upload date. The time of day isn't shown.
- Channel About panel. On a channel page, click more next to the description to see the join date, total views and video count.
- Likes and dislikes. Creators can hide the like count. YouTube stopped showing dislike counts publicly in November 2021.
- Subscribers. Public subscriber counts are rounded to three significant figures, so 12,345 subscribers shows as 12.3K.
For your own videos, YouTube Studio shows every detail and all your analytics. For anyone else's, you're limited to public information, but there's more of it than the watch page displays.
How our Data Viewer helps
Paste a video or channel URL into the Data Viewer to see the public fields laid out in one table.
For a video:
- Exact publish time (converted to your time zone, with the original value kept), length, views, likes and comments
- Category, tags, chapters and caption languages
- Whether embedding is allowed, and the countries where the video is blocked
For a channel:
- Subscriber count, total views, join date, country and verification
- Whether memberships (the Join button) are offered, links from the channel page, recent videos and upload frequency
Every value carries a source label, so you can tell what we read from YouTube and what we calculated, such as uploads per 30 days. Copy a single value or a whole section, or export what's on screen as CSV or JSON.
When it comes in handy
- Checking what time of day a similar channel publishes
- Confirming a video can be embedded before you put it on your site
- Finding out which countries are blocked when overseas viewers say a video won't play
- Seeing a channel's links and upload rhythm in one place
Reading the numbers correctly
- Views, likes and comments are the public counts at the time shown. YouTube can take a while to update them, so very fresh numbers move.
- Calculated values, such as uploads per 30 days, are marked as estimates, because they come from our own arithmetic rather than from YouTube.
- Blocked countries are the countries a creator or rights holder has kept the video out of. A video can still be unavailable for other reasons, such as age restriction.
The limits
Analytics such as watch time, revenue, traffic sources and audience demographics are private. Only the channel owner can see them in YouTube Studio, and no outside tool can show them. If a creator hides likes or subscribers, we mark the value as not available rather than estimating it.
Each result shows the exact time it was read. YouTube updates some counts with a delay, so a number that just changed can briefly differ from what you see on YouTube. Private videos can't be read by anyone except the owner; unlisted videos can be looked up if you have the link.
